Reusing Glass containers

July 22, 2025

Repurposing glass containers is a fun and easy craft that can have many uses.

First gather your supplies

You may have seen Oui yogurt in the grocery store. The yogurt is great. I only buy it as a special treat. It comes in a cute glass container that I save for projects.

Wherever you buy your craft supplies, pick up Waverly chalk paint in your choice of color. To finish and seal your project, pick up Waverly Wax.

Pick up embellishments to add to the outside. I used E6000 clear adhesive to glue the embellishments to the glass.

Finally, use 320 grit extra fine sandpaper to smooth the chalk paint before applying the wax.

Let’s get started!

First remove the labels. They come off pretty easily. If there are any sticky spots, use a little Goo Gone to remove any adhesive left behind.

Now measure the ribbon, cut to fit around the glass. Then, glue in place. I used a gem for the front. You could use a flower or any number of items. Let the glue dry for a couple of hours.

The next step

Using a craft brush, brush a thin coat of chalk paint on the glass. Cover the embellishments with paint as well. Let it dry for a couple of hours before applying a second coat.

Lightly sand the paint to provide a smooth and even surface.

Last, sealing the project

I sanded over the embellishments so they would show through just a bit.

Apply a thin coat of wax over the painted layers.

After the wax has sat for 24 hours, buff it out with a soft cloth to create a soft shine to the finish.

Your decorated glass jar

You can change up the design to switch the look! Try different jars or bottles! Add a ribbon or cording by tying it around the top.

Uses for the jar

  • Pencil holder
  • Make it into a candle
  • Add a plant
  • Use to hold cotton swabs or other bathroom supplies
  • Flower vase
  • Use in a grouping to add to your decor
  • Use to hold small items for a cute gift

I hope this gives you some inspiration to try spicing up your own glass jars or bottles.
