Painting on wood is another great thing to paint on. If you can cut out your own shapes, even better! Whatever I draw out, my husband will cut it out for me! This is a craft for all ages and skill levels. With fall right around the corner, I drew out some pumpkins to paint. I am using mandala painting for this project.

Cut out your shape and sand the edges. Wipe off all the sawdust.
Use acrylic paint to paint a base coat on your project. It can take 2 coats to get good coverage.
For this pumpkin I used thin washi tape to cover the spots I didn’t want to paint over.
Next I started adding my mandala designs. You can use dot tools, cotton tipped swabs or anything round that you can dip in paint.
After the paint dried, I went back and removed the washi tape from the pumpkin on the left. I used lighter colors on the top and darker colors on the bottom. Letting the paint dry as you go will save you from accidentally smearing what you have just painted. Go back and add in more dots to get the look you want.
After the paint has dried-24 to 48 hours, protect your project with a spray sealer.
Happy painting!
