This is an old favorite of mine. I had forgotten about this recipe until last May when my daughter asked me to make it for her birthday dinner. The grandkids even like it!
Gather ingredients

- 3-1/3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 packages (2 ounce) dry onion soup mix
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1-1/2 cups cheddar cheese-shredded, divided
Prepare

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan or 2 smaller loaf pans.
Instructions

- Mix together all-purpose flour and the baking soda. Then add the soup mix.
Next

- Next, stir in buttermilk, then add one cup of shredded cheddar cheese.
Put in loaf pan

- Place dough in prepared loaf or loaf pans.
- Top with remaining cheese.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes for a 9×5 inch loaf pan. The smaller loaf pans will be done sooner. Start checking on them after 30 minutes.
For best results

Allow the bread to cool in the loaf pan for 10 minutes before sliding a knife around the edges of the pan. Next, tip the pan upside down to remove the bread.
Place the bread on a wire rack to finish cooling.
DO NOT slice the bread while it is hot, as it will dry out, become soggy or fall apart.
This bread is very moist and has a great taste! Enjoy!
