Making Dog Treats

Homemade Pumpkin & Peanut Butter Dog Treats

June 7, 2024

Dog treats like anything, can get expensive. Here is an easy recipe that is healthy with only four ingredients. Oliver was right there in the kitchen waiting for the treats to cool so he could have one! Graham wasn’t far behind!

Ingredient:

  1. 2/3 cup canned pumpkin puree
  2. 1/4 cup peanut butter
  3. 2 large eggs
  4. 2-1/2 to 3 cups whole wheat flour

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat; set aside.
  2. In a bowl, using an electric mixer, beat pumpkin puree, peanut butter and eggs on medium speed until well combined. Gradually add 2-1/2 cups of flour at low speed. Beat just until incorporated. Add an additional 1/4 cup at a time, just until no longer sticky.

3. Work on lightly floured surface. Knead the dough until it comes together and is not sticky.

4. Use a rolling pin to roll out dough to 1/4 inch thick. The dough will be heavier than cookie dough. Flipping it over and rolling the dough on both sides will make it easier to roll out.

5. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes. Place on a prepared baking sheet. They will not spread, so you can place them close together.

6. Bake until the edges are golden brown about 20-25 minutes. Let them cool completely.

Note:

Baking times can vary depending on size and thickness of your treats. Turning them over 1/2 way through baking also helps for even baking.

Store them in the fridge or you can freeze them for later.
