Felt Santa

Let’s craft some cute felt Santas!

Supplies

  • Black embroidery floss for making the eyes
  • Red embroidery floss for the red body
  • White floss for the beard and mustache
  • Peach wool felt for the face and nose
  • White wool felt for the hair and mustache
  • Red wool felt for the body
  • Rice for stuffing
  • Make a paper pattern- 1 triangle 3 inches on each side. They must be the same size so this three dimensional Santa will fit together
  • Make one paper pattern for the beard and hair
  • Make one paper pattern for the mustache

Trace & cut out the pieces

  • Cut 4 triangles out of the red felt for the body
  • Cut out 1 beard/hair piece from the white felt
  • Cut out 1 mustache out of the white
  • Cut out a face and small oval nose out of the peach

Putting the face together

  • Using fabric glue, glue the peach face to the beard/hair on the back side
  • Next, glue the little peach oval nose on at the beard edge
  • Glue the mustache in place

Sewing the face on

  • Glue the Santa face onto one of the red felt triangles as shown
  • Using 2 strands of black embroidery floss, make eyes for Santa by making a French knot for each eye
  • Blanket stitch around the outside of Santa’s beard and hair with 2 strands of matching white floss

Putting the body together

  • Pin together the next triangle.
  • Blanket stitch the edges together with 2 strands of red floss
  • Make sure to stitch the tips so when you fill it with rice, the rice won’t leak out

Continue putting the triangle shape together

  • Sew the back of the triangle (Santa’s body) together, again using the blanket stitch

Sewing the bottom triangle in place

Now the last triangle is ready to be sewn on to form the bottom.

  • Pin the last triangle together with one of the bottom sides, then blanket stitch as done with all the other sides
  • Blanket stitch the second side
  • Leave the third side open and add rice. Don’t fill it all the way to the top or you won’t be able to stitch it shut.

After you have added the rice, carefully pin the edges of the last side shut.

Blanket stitch closed.

Finishing the Santa

Lastly, add the pompom to make Santa’s hat complete.

Using white floss, pull the threads through the top of the triangle.

Pull the floss through the pompom.

Pull it tight to the top of his head. Make a couple more of these stitches to secure the pompom.

Santa!

This little guy could be tucked onto the Christmas tree or into any arrangement to display.

A great little gift!

Happy Crafting..
