Crafting with Silicone Molds

Using Silicone molds is fun and easy. Taking your time will assure your project turns out perfect every time.

I bought a silicone owl mold on Amazon. My first project was to make owl figurines out of Plaster of Paris.

You can buy Plaster of Paris at any home improvement store.

Use a disposable container. I used a plastic spoon to mix the plaster up. It does not shrink or crack when it dries, making it the perfect medium.

Use two parts of the plaster powder to one part water. Add the powder to the water. Mix well. Do not mix up more than you can use in 7-12 minutes.

Spray a little glass cleaner in the mold. Wipe it around with your finger. This will prevent bubbles from forming against the walls of the mold.

Slowly pour the plaster into the mold. Tapping the mold gently on the table will help release air bubbles to the surface. I do this several times, then I make sure the plaster is even with the top of the mold. You can take a plastic knife and scrape it across the top to ensure that your owl will have a flat bottom to sit on.

After just a couple hours, it will be fully dry. Then push the owl out of the mold.

Wall-a! You have cute little owls! You can put a couple of drops of essential oil on it to give a nice scent. Paint your owl.

You can buy a lotion bar kit to make owl lotion buddies! My daughter thought he was too cute and wouldn’t use the lotion!

Chocolate owls, owl candles…
