This craft involves folding the pages of a book to form 3-D shapes. It is a great way to transform old books into cool sculptures.
The pattern

- A book folding pattern looks like this.
- The first column lists the page number.
- Next is the measurement to mark the top of the page.
- Last, is the measurement for the bottom of the page.
Materials needed
- Download a pattern. You can find these on several sites. By googling “book folding”, you will find several sites with pattern ideas. Some are free, while others charge a small fee.
- A hard covered book is necessary with enough pages to complete the pattern. It’s okay if there are more pages in the book then needed. Count and evenly divide the extra pages between the front and back of the book.
- Grab a ruler and pencil to mark the exact points on the page where the fold needs to be made. Typically, both the top and bottom of each page will be folded. These folds will form the pattern.

Folding
Fold the pages on the marks you have made. The folding will be repeated with all the pages until the entire book forms the sculpture. An elastic band is very helpful to hold the pages already folded.
The finished book folding

It amazes me that by folding the pages of a book you can end up with a sculpture like this!

If this is a project that you might enjoy, browse for a pattern you like. You may already have a hardcover book that you can use. Goodwill or Little Libraries are another source for a book to repurpose.
