I like to make some of my own dog chews. They are healthier and less expensive. This recipe comes together quickly and will have your dogs waiting to have one.
Gather ingredients

- 1 medium apple
- 1 medium carrot
- 2 cups whole wheat flour or oat flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1 large egg
- 1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
Instructions

First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
Next, grate the apple and carrot.

Now, mix the grated apple, carrot, flour and oats in a large bowl until evenly combined.

Next, add the egg and applesauce. Stir until a dough forms. You can add 1-2 tablespoons of water if needed.

After you form the dough into a ball, roll it out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick.
Cut the dough into 4 inch sticks. I like to twist the sticks.

Lastly, arrange the chews on the prepared baking sheet allowing some space between each one.

Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and firm. Cool completely.
Notes:
- Turn off the oven and let the sticks cool in the oven for a crunchy stick.
- Always remove apple seeds from your apples when using for your pups. They are not safe for dogs to eat.
- The consistency of the dough can vary depending on how much moisture is in the apple and carrot as you grate it.
- Store in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer.
I hope your dog enjoys this homemade treat!
